Best London villages to visit; Northcote Road
I love exploring and I have decided to go around the small, locally known villages to discover London more and share with others. People mostly visit popular places like Westminster, Oxford Street, Baker Street. But what about the other locations where you can find local shops and unique places to explore.
I bought Zena Alkayat’s book London Villages and visited couple of villages and like to share you the ones I enjoyed most.
Last week I had been on Northcote Road. It is based in South London and close to Clapham Junction station. You can find so many cafes and shops also there is a historic food market which dates back to 1860s.
I used Clapham Junction train station and walked about 12 minutes to get into the Northcote Road. When you like to explore London all you need is City Mapper and Google Maps, love these two apps.
While I was walking to Northcote Road I noticed an optician called Ollie Quinn. I like their glasses they design themselves and it is an English brand. Price is fixed with all glasses including everything , 98 pound. They also make eye exams if you need.
If you visit Northcote Road there is an outdoor market on Fridays and Saturdays when there is full complement of stalls selling fruit, veg and other staff. Although it was Friday there were couple of stalls when I was visiting there.
As there was not so many food stalls I decided to eat my lunch at Franco Manca, it is one of the best pizza restaurant in London also Homeslice Pizza is a good one if you like to try.
I ordered mozzarella and ricotta cheese with lamb sausage, it was perfect.
After finishing my lunch I discovered a local honey shop that should be a must visit place, The Hive Honey Shop. Cause they are the only honey shop in London and they claim that they are selling the best honeys in the Kingdom it is quite unique. Also you can order online.
You will be amazed when you get into shop as there are so many products not only honeys also any accessories about bees. They are so passionate about their business.
James the owner of the shop has been beekeeping since he was 5 and his family has been beekeeping for the last three generations. They invented lotions, cosmetics from their bee hives. When James made gifts for his friends he decided to open a shop at 1992.
I have bought myself a soap with a bee on it and Wandsworth Floral Honey, which is rated as the best honey in London, it tastes so nice. They also sell honeys all around the world.
My next stop was Verde London, this shop has natural and organic products.
I am fan of this brand cause I love their products. Creams, shampoos and bath salts but I can strongly recommend you the Italian Lemon hand cream it has an award as well, honestly the best hand cream I have ever used. I prefer to order online and they send really quickly.
My last stops was an Antiques Market, Northcote Road Antiques Market
There are thirty dealers inside and it has variety of home ware, let me say generally good for collectors not for investors.
